Week of Dec. 15 - 19 Blog 14 (Grade 5/6)

Please take note of the following:

EVENTS

1. It is the last week of school for 2025. Here are the Spirit days ...

Monday – winter tuque day

Tuesday – plaid shirt / outfit day

Wednesday – hats and scarves day

Thursday – PJ Day

Friday – holiday sweater day

1. On an academic note, we are trying to finish all tasks that we've started. So, students are encouraged to complete incomplete work in all subject areas. In Language, we are completing tasks on the Indigenous Texts we've been looking at. We may be presenting this same content in an assembly next year. Also, students have received spelling list 4. The Spelling test will not be until 2026. I do strongly encourage students to read a book over the holiday break. In Math, completed math work has gone home. Students are still completing a few patterning tasks. We have also started to review graphs and which graphs display information better. Students have made graphs and are using graph success criteria to do data correctly. Last week, the class reviewed mode, range, median and mean (finding the average). We also reviewed double bar graphs, stacked bar graphs and stem and leaf plots. This week, the grade 6s will look at histograms and discrete and continuous data while the grade 5s will look at sampling techniques. In Socials, the grade 5s are completing a responsible citizenship booklet while the grade 6s are working on Canada's trading partners.

REMINDERS

2. Please ensure students are bringing indoor shoes to wear at school. Hats, mitts and scarves need to be worn outdoors in colder temperatures.

3. Food Drive Donations are being accepted at the school.

4. THERE IS NO SCHOOL FROM Dec. 22 - January 2. This is the Winter Break. School resumes Jan. 5, 2026.

Have a wonderful holiday and thanks for all your help in making this a successful first term! I appreciate everything!

Week of Dec. 8 - 12 Blog 13 (Grade 5/6)

Please take note of the following:

STAYING HEALTHY

1. As the wintery climates remain, it is important for students to keep jackets on outdoors, as well as gloves, scarves and hats.

2. A good night's rest is helping student be ready for learning everyday.

LOCKERS

3. Thanks for ensuring a lock is on your child's locker.

SUPPLIES

4. Some students will need to bring a pencil to school for learning because while we have supplies for learning, pencils are used each day.

CLASSWORK

5. Students completed a bar graph and noted success criteria for making graphs last week. We will continue with expectations until Dec. 19 - the last day of school for the 2025 school year. Students will be bringing home corrected classwork this week. In Language, students submitted reading tasks, text connections and stretching a sentence. We are working on highlighting the strengths and weaknesses in characters who are leaders in the texts, The Animal Choose a Leader and the Sharing Circle. We will also be completing work around the 12 moons of the Indigenous Calendar this week during language classes. In Social Studies, the grade 6s will be writing a test on Canada and its interactions with other communities in the global community. The TEST is on Wed. Dec. 10. They created practice tests for each other on Friday, Dec. 5. In Social Studies, we are discussing the infrastructures in communities and the way in which all 3 levels of government cooperate to solve issues.

6. Please keep in mind that indoor shoes are needed for school.

SCHOOL ACTIVITY
