Week of Feb. 9 - 13 Week 20 (Grade 5/6)

Please take note of the following:

CLASSWORK

1. We are wrapping up work around financial literacy this week. Grade 6s will be looking at interest rates and grade 5s at basic budgeting. We completed a bulletin board outside of our classroom. It includes tips about things we learned during our math unit on financial literacy. The quizzes written on Friday will be returned this week and uploaded to google classroom. In language, students will be writing spelling list 5 on Monday, Feb. 9. We are also looking at comparing 2 African American figures in history for our next writing assignment. We've worked on paraphrasing and students received a reference sheet about how to write bibliographies. In Reading, both classes have now read a total of 3000 books on epic. Great job! The EQAO practice page, Ice Wranglers is due on Monday, Feb. 9. The grade 6s will be taking this up in class on Monday. We will be looking at both text features / forms and structures in texts over the next couple of weeks as well. In Social Studies, the grade 6s have homework around latitude and longitude and reading places on the globe. The grade 5s submitted their projects on an issue in Canada and the levels of government involved in solving the problem. We have shifted to the next unit of study for the second term.

TRIPS

2. The grade 5s are reminded about their trip to the Kortright Center. Please use the links that were sent to pay for the trip asap.

REPORT CARDS

3. Report cards will be sent home on Monday, Feb. 9. THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON FEB. 13 or FEB. 16 which is Family Day.

FEB. 13

4. We will have a period in the afternoon to celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday. Students who choose to bring something are asked to be mindful of allergies and to share with the 29 students in our class. A class list will be shared this week.

Thanks,
