Week of Jan. 5 - 9 Blog 15 (Grade 5/6)

Welcome Back!

I trust the break has been a time of rest for your family as we gear up to resume learning in 2026!

Please take note of the following:

TRIPS

1. EMA is now available. Please make payments and authorize for your child to attend the trip on Jan. 14, 2026.

2. Some students have received a form from Mr. Lee about an excursion. Please follow details outlined on the form sent home during the last week of school in 2025.

CLASSWORK

3. We will slowly resume where we left off in 2025 and continue in our learning. In Math, students are 3/4 of the way through Data Management. Students composed a question to complete a survey in class. We looked at data sampling and will continue to do so during the first week back. Students should have also finished all corrections on the mean, mode and median handout. Students should have handed in their stacked bar graph and the grade 6s their histogram worksheet. The grade 6s completed a sheet on qualitative and quantitative data in last few days before the break. In light of the absences due to sickness, I am making the effort to post videos to summarize especially math work on a weekly basis if absences persist. These posts can be found in the stream tab of google classroom. The last weekly post was Dec. 16. In Language, students are completing a poem about being a leader with a friend. We will also resume spelling list 4 activities. The spelling test will be on Jan. 12. The list was posted Dec. 12 in google classroom. We will also resume STUDENT BOOK PICKS and feature a book from a student this Friday, Jan. 9. On Monday, Jan. 5th, it will be a day 1 so, the grade 6s will have instrumental and the grade 5s music in the afternoon.

4. In Social Studies, the grade 6s are working on trading partners that Canada has, while the grade 5s are looking at the need for the Canadian government to communicate changes that would affect Indigenous People and their lands. Student geography work around Take me outside day and artwork around Indigenous Texts we read will be posted and graded this week in google classroom.

SCIENCE

5. Mr. McClenaghan had a science assignment that students were completing. This does need to get done and submitted as we are nearing the end of term 1. Not all students have submitted their work. Please see google classroom to review unsubmitted work.

CLASSBANK

6. I have posted the link for students to join classbank in google classroom. This is a financial literacy platform that helps students understand the exchange of money, taxes and paying bills.

ABSENCES

7. Thanks for communicating absences to the office and to myself.  NOTE - Work missed as a result of absences needs to be completed.

WINTER SEASON

8. Please remind your child to wear items to keep warm as the fluctuations in weather are quite unpredictable. Let's stay strong and healthy in 2026!

Thanks,

Purboo
