Week of Jan 19 - 23 Blog 17 (Grade 5/6)

Please take note of the following:

SCHOOL EVENTS

1. We are having a book swap on Jan. 21. Book donations are still being accepted outside of the school office.

2. We will be walking to the Toronto Public Library on Thursday, Jan. 22 in the afternoon.

3. It is Literacy Week this week at school. We will be completing several literacy activities throughout the week in addition to preparing for Black History Month.

TESTS

4. In light of the snow day, the data management test will now be on Mon. Jan. 19 for both grades.

CLASS EVENTS

5. We have an online program that allows students to practice managing money. They earn money in class for tasks they complete. They also pay taxes in class and pay a tariff on a weekly basis.

CLASSWORK

6. Please ensure students complete the Black History Month task uploaded to google classroom on Jan 16. Students will be working on the next week of penmanship. We have read 2250 books between the 2 classes so far this year. Please encourage students to be reading! Most students have completed their Responsibility poem connect to the Indigenous Texts we have been reading. Their work is posted around the school. MATH - We are working HARD to correct and send home all old work. We will spend a few days this week on rounding and comparing decimals, then we will look at Financial Literacy. In Social Studies, grade 5 students are selecting an issue to research in Canada as well as their plan of action to solve the problem. Resources have been posted in google classroom. The grade 6s are working to finish up their package - Canada's response to Environmental concerns. NOTE - both classes should be studying soon for their unit tests in Social Studies. It will likely be at the end of the month.

Thanks,

Purboo
